Imogene Erickson Jackson Stine

November 26, 1938 — December 19, 2020

Imogene Erickson was born November 26, 1938 to Floyd Eric Erickson and Jesse McGregor Erickson in their home in Mink Creek Idaho. She was the only girl with two older brothers, Bob and Layne, and one younger brother, Gary.

She graduated high school in 1957 and attended Utah State University in Logan, Utah before transferring to BYU where she completed her degree in home economics. That is where she met her love!

She married Karl E. Jackson on September 28, 1962 in the Logan Utah Temple. He preceded her in death on January 17, 1988. She married her second husband, Alan L. Stine, on June 4, 1988 in Salem Utah, and he preceded her in death on February 3, 2013. With Karl, she gave birth to six children, Valerie, Shirley, Douglas, Allen, Cynthia, and Andrea. When she married Alan, she also inherited four additional children, Cori, Tricia, Lance, and Mindy. That gave her a total of 10 children, 34 grandchildren, and innumerable great grandchildren, all of whom she loved fiercely and devotedly.

Imogene was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and all of her children have described her loyalty to God as one of her defining characteristics, saying that no one prayed harder or more steadily for her family than she did. Her love for the gospel and her family produced a deep-seated loyalty and closeness among her surviving posterity, most of whom learned to cherish each other from her example. She maintained a beautiful and immaculate home and yard no matter where she lived, and she loved flowers and always made plants thrive. She had tremendous passion for music, sports, and the outdoors. She loved the beautiful hymns of the church, and her favorite current group was Gentri. She also loved the old country classics such as Jim Reeves and Charlie Pride.

When her children were young, she coached and played softball, and taught her daughters as well as her sons how to fast pitch a softball. She played league softball well into her 60s. She also bowled and golfed. Last summer at a family gathering, she still displayed her ongoing active spirit and played kickball with the kids (with a designated runner of course)! She was a staple audience member at countless baseball and basketball games, music concerts, and plays for her kids and grandkids over the years, always quick to acknowledge the beauty of a well-hit baseball, a well-placed slam dunk, or a moving lyric or melody.

She jumped at any opportunity to be outside and was hiking in Zion National Park with Andrea’s family just two weeks prior to her death. She never shied away from sleeping in a tent or going off on some back road just to “see where it went.” She was fearless in her adventures both at home and abroad and traveled throughout the US and internationally with her beloved Alan.

Above all, she exemplified that “a stranger’s just a friend you do not know” and had the ability to talk to anyone and make them her friend. She was warm and welcoming to even the most distant family relations and eager to give her love and support to anyone who needed it. Her life is a beautiful legacy of faith, love, adventure, and staying young at heart, a legacy that she imparted to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the countless others whose lives were touched by her generous and loving spirit.

Her legacy and memory are carried and cherished by her surviving family members: Her brothers, Bob (Claudia), Layne (Karen), and Gary (Sharen); her children, Valerie, Shirley (Michael), Douglas (Meri), Allen (Heather), Cynthia (Doug), and Andrea (Taylor); her stepchildren, Cori, Tricia, Lance, and Mindy; and her numerous extended family and grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Imogene Erickson Stine has been a most beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother, and the countless hearts she touched are made better because of the life she lived.
