Ione Tippets-Hancock

June 24, 1924 — March 29, 2017

Ione Rigby Tippets Hancock passed away peacefully on March 29, 2017.  Both she and her twin sister, Cleone, were born June 10, 1924 in Sublett, Idaho in the home of their grandmother Rigby.  Her parents were Ivan K. Rigby and Josephine Wight Rigby.  She graduated from Montpelier High School in Montpelier, Idaho.  She attended LDS Business College.  In 1941, when the United States entered World War II, she went to work at Fort Douglas.  She married DeWane M. Tippets May 22, 1945.  They raised four children in the Rose Park area.  She worked as a medical transcriptioist for the Salt Lake Clinic, and later the Ear, Nose and Throat Center in Salt Lake.  DeWane passed asay in 1981.  She married Clem S. Hancock in 1987.  He passed away in 2016. 

Ione is survived by her twin sister, Cleone Cochran.  Also her children, Dale D. (Bobbie) Tippets, Sharon (Dallas) Stanger, Carl R. (Michelle) Tippets, and Brent R. (Julie) Tippets.  She has seventeen grandchildren and forty-nine great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by Clem’s children, Lynn (Anne-Marie) Hancock, Sharon (Marc) Haddock, Bryan (Patty) Hancock and Darrell (Rebecca) Hancock.  She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, DeWane M. Tippets, her husband Clem S. Hancock and her four brothers, Henry, Kay, Don and Lee Rigby.

The family would like to thank all the caregivers at the Central Utah Veteran’s Home in Payson.  Especially Terry and Karissa.  Also Bristal Hospice staff and her nurse, Lisa.  They have cared for our mother as if she was their own.  Also, special thanks to Sandi and Tom Napierski, their kindness and friendship meant so much to our mother.

There will be a viewing on Friday, April 7, at the Russon Brothers Mortuary, 255 S. 200 E. in Salt Lake City, Utah from 6:30-8:00 p.m.  Also on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at the Rose Park 10th Ward, 760 N. 1200 W., Salt Lake City, from 9:30–10:30 a.m.  The funeral service will be at that location at 11:00 a.m. on that day.  Interment will be in the Farmington City Cemetery.
