Ira Todd

Biography

Ira Hatch Todd passed away Thursday, October 17, 2013 at home due to complications of kidney cancer, surrounded by his family. Ever patient and kind, and with a gentle sense of humor, Ira was a fabulous husband, father, and grandfather.
Ira was born December 16, 1925 to Douglas and Margaret Burton Todd, the seventh of nine children. The Todd family was filled with love, hard work, and fun. They supported each other in the depression and throughout their lives.
In 1944 he graduated from Cody High School, Wyoming, and reported for active duty shortly thereafter. In World War II he served with the 3rd Battalion, 6th Marines as part of the occupational force in Japan. Following his discharge in 1946 he attended Brigham Young University where he graduated in Accounting. In 1950 he returned to Japan, this time serving as a full time missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for three years. This began his lifelong love for Japan and the friends he made there.
Following his mission, Ira lived in Southern California where he met and married his eternal sweetheart, Patricia Glancy. Together they sang in the Mormon Choir of Southern California including the dedication of the Los Angeles CA Temple. Ira and Pat raised three children, first in Southern California then later in Utah. In 1994 Ira retired from his position as Bountiful City Treasurer and served a second LDS mission to Japan, this time with his wife, Pat. Together they served in the Tokyo temple for 18 months. Following their return to Utah they continued to serve as temple ordinance workers in addition to serving a Family History mission.
A lifelong member of the LDS church, Ira gained a witness of the truth of the Book of Mormon while reading its pages on the crowded deck of a transport ship in the South Pacific during World War II. Ira cherished the years he worked as a Temple Sealer. He also served with the Scouting program for many years.
Throughout his life Ira was known for his athleticism. In college he played on the BYU tennis team and continued to enjoy the sport throughout his life. He competed in many local competitions and taught his children and grandchildren how to play. At age 75 he climbed King’s Peak with his Varsity Scouts.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia; and their three children: daughter, Brooke Kowalczik and husband, Rick, son, Richard Todd and wife Carrie, and daughter Suzanne Johnson and husband, Ben; eight grandchildren: Jonathan, Heather (Hector), Thomas (Astrid), Alicia (Jonathan), Gregory (Stephanie), Eric, and Katherine; and one great-granddaughter, Lauren. He is also survived by three of his siblings: Alice Bratithwaite, Norma Mabey, and Byron (Dale); and sister-in-law, Beverly.
The family wishes to thank Intermountain Hospice, as well as Ira’s neighbors and friends, and especially his angel wife, Pat for their tender care and support during the last few months of his life.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 26, 2013 at the Bountiful LDS Chapel, 1356 North 650 East, Bountiful. A viewing will be held Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, and Saturday morning 9:45 – 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment-Bountiful City Cemetery.

A viewing will be held Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, and Saturday morning 9:45 – 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment-Bountiful City Cemetery.
