Irene Lowell

April 1, 1918 — November 29, 2013

Irene Lucille Lowell, 95, died at a son’s home on Nov 29, 2013 of causes associated with a stroke suffered earlier in the year. She was born April 1, 1918 in Kersey, Colorado to Walter B. Sanders, Sr. and Anna Louise Sanders (Ballinger). She was the second of 4 children and the oldest daughter. She was raised in a very loving family with her parents and siblings. She saw her mother take in and feed and clothe the homeless and others who were down even though they had little themselves. That legacy of service was manifest in her own life of thoughtful service to others. At age 18, she married Kenneth W. Lowell on July 25, 1936 in Denver, Colorado where they made their first home.
Irene is the mother of three sons; Kenneth Jr., Keith, and Kevin. She moved with her husband and children to Grand Junction, Colorado where Kenneth Sr. operated a successful ceramic tile subcontracting business for 22 years. In August 1956, she and her sons became members of the LDS Church in which she dedicated 58 years of service.
Irene loved to cook. When there was a meal to be prepared and served at a missionary zone conference, or at a church bazaar, or at a church budget dinner, Irene was the person asked to organize, cook, and serve the meal.
Irene is preceded in death by her son, Keith, in 1957, by her husband of 52 years, Kenneth Sr., in 1987, by her parents Walter and Anna, and by her siblings Walter Jr., Madalene Seyfer, and Gladys Burkhart. She is survived by two sons, Kenneth Jr. (Jo) and Kevin (Carol), and by 53 grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 3rd at the LDS meetinghouse at 165 S. 1000 E. in Bountiful, Utah at 11 am. The family will receive well-wishers from 9:30 – 10:30 just prior to the service as well as for 30 minutes immediately following the service. Burial will be in Denver Colorado.
