Isabella (Isabel) Millar passed away unexpectedly March 11, 2020 in Bountiful, Utah.
Isabel was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland to Sarah (Sally) and Samuel Coard. Isabel was the baby of the family and her daddy’s ”blue-eyed girl”, but sadly he passed away unexpectedly when she was 7. Isabel had two beloved sisters and one brother, Georgina (Jean) Dallas and Sarah (Sadie) McCann and Samuel (Sammy) Coard.
Isabel met her husband George (Geordie) Millar, the love of her life, when she was 16 and they lived a long and happy life together until his passing on May 5, 2014, just shy of what would have been their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Together they had two children, George Paul Millar and Michelle Sarah Millar.
In 1981, during “The Troubles”, due in part, to being badly injured in a terrorist bomb attack at her place of employment, the Millar family left Northern Ireland and immigrated to the United States.
California here we come, but Bountiful, Utah is where we stayed.
Isabel worked at the South Davis Community Care Center for many years until she was forced into retirement, due to medical conditions beyond her control. She loved working there and was very sad to have to retire. The friendships she made there will continue on in their hearts.
During her time of employment, Isabel found her best friend in Mattie Gallivan (her chum). These two ladies were crazy about Daniel 0’Donnell, an Irish singer. If not listening to him or watching his videos, they traveled throughout the United States to go to his concerts. We loving called these two ladies “The Daniel O’Donnell Groupies”. Sadly, Mattie passed in 2015, but they will certainly be attending all his future concerts together in spirit.
Isabel was also a beloved members of The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection. She found joy, peace and comfort there.
Isabel loved life! She loved to dance. She loved to talk and socialize, with her lovely Northern Irish accent. She was the most beloved storyteller. She loved to cook, her family will miss the legacy of those Irish dishes she made. She loved shopping and winning at the slots, which she did often. Most of all she loved her family. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for her family and this extended to family that was picked up along the way. She was “mum” to more than her two biological children.
Isabel had many medical struggles over the years, but she never let this stop her. She was a fighter and outlived all doctors expectations.
Sadly, Isabel will not make the trip to Northern Ireland this summer as planned. She was so looking forward to going home to Belfast with her family.
Isabel had the biggest heart. She touched so many lives with her kindness, gift of gab, and sense of humor. She will be greatly missed by all. The world is darker place without her light in it.
Isabel is survived by her son George Paul Millar (Amy), Woods Cross, Utah and daughter Michelle Sarah Millar, Farmington, Utah, grandchildren George William Millar (25), Carson Paul Millar (18), Matthew David Bird (17) and Jaxon John Steven Bird (6).
