J. George Robinson

Biography

Dr. J. George Robinson passed away October 11, 2013 at the age of 97. He was born May 30, 1916 in Farmington, Utah to Hazel Thatcher Robinson and H. H. Robinson.
J. George attended Davis High School, was a graduate of University of Utah and earned a P.H.D. in Business Management and Marketing from New York University in 1951. He also served as a Lieutenant Commander in the U. S. Navy during W.W. II. In 1940 he married Edythe Ireta Bourne in Washington D.C. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1942.
Dr. J. George, as some family members called him, was a Professor of Marketing at the University of Southern California, Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea and served as Professor and Associate Dean of the Graduate School of Business at Washington University in St. Louis, MO. He was the author and co-author of several books dealing with Marketing and Retailing and served as a consultant and visiting Professor in Korea, Japan, Ghana, Brazil, Tunisia and Moscow. He also served on the Board of Directors for the St. Louis YMCA and Forest Hills Country Club in Chesterfield, MO. He was a marketing consultant for a number of Fortune 500 companies and served as President of the American Marketing Association. In 2005 he married Jean Timmerman. They were later sealed in the Bountiful Temple.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Edythe Ireta Bourne and great grandson, Austin Troy Naef. He is survived by his wife, Jean Timmerman Robinson and his four children, Linda Ireta Robinson of Spokane, WA, G. Scott Robinson of St. Louis, MO, James H. Robinson of Corte Madera, CA and Kathryn Bourne Jacobs of SLC, UT, ten grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30a.m., Saturday, October 19, 2013 at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 1941 N. Main St., Farmington, UT 84025. There will be a visitation from 9:30-10:30a.m. prior to services. Interment at Farmington City Cemetery.
