J. Richard Hodson 88, Passed peacefully from this life early on the morning of March 20, 2017 from the effects of age.
Richard was born on March 4, 1929 to Jedediah Richard and Leone Blood Hodson.
Richard said, “ My Father was killed by a horse before I was born in the month of October 1928. That is why the Temple means so much to me, because we are an eternal Family.” He always looked forward to the day he would meet his Father, because of his belief that Temples create eternal families.
Richard had an illustrious career as a builder, building 57 major projects. The pinnacle of which, he felt was having the opportunity to build 2 temples, Provo Utah, and Las Vegas Nevada.
Richard always said that one of the things he was most proud of was his military service. Richard was a Korean War veteran who received many commendations and rapid promotions through the ranks. In less than 2 years he had been promoted to the highest ranking non commissioned officer in the unit.
Richard was involved with horses in some way for his entire life. He was a cowboy who always enjoyed his horses, riding, and hunting. If the task required anything but horseback, the activity would have occurred but without Richard’s participation.
He met the love of his life in 1949 and that event changed the trajectory of his life. He married Olive Kynaston in the Salt Lake Temple on September 27, 1950, Olive preceeded him in Death.
Richard is survived by their three children, Kay Lynn (Paul) White, Dr. Gregory ( Terri ) Hodson, Debera (Joseph) Kennard, 38 Grandchildren and 54 Great Grandchildren.
