Jack Bushman Wood

1931 ~ 2016

Our beloved Father, Grandfather and Brother passed from this earth on April 3, 2016 at the age of 84.  We hated to see him go, but so grateful to have him re-united with the loved ones he missed so much.

Jack was born July 15, 1931 to Joseph Herbert Wood and Freda Bushman in Salt Lake City on the same day as his lifelong friend, Colleen (Kitty) Hales.  He was raised in North Salt Lake where he lived most of his life.

He grew up learning the value and fun of work.  His parents taught Jack and his siblings, Patricia and Bill, how to work hard and enjoy life.  Jack was a talented carpenter, mechanic and general fix-anything man. He loved working for anyone in any capacity.  He plowed snow, repaired anything around anyone’s house, worked on anyone’s car and generally aided anyone who asked.  Sometimes if he just saw it needed to be done he would do it without being asked.  He never turned down a project or asked why you wanted it done.

He loved bicycles, motorcycles, camping, and especially boating.  He inherited the travel gene from his mother and loved to go anywhere, anytime, even 4 wheeling at 83!  Up to the last, he would ask when he saw us, “Where are we going?”

In 1951 he joined the Army Air Force and was stationed in Clovis, New Mexico, where as a PFC, served as a mechanic and carpenter.

When he was 20 he met, and married in the Salt Lake Temple, Beverly Jean Mounteer who was 5 years older.  He teased her throughout their 31 years together that she robbed the cradle.  After losing twin babies, they raised only one child, Rodney, who with his wife Connie, enjoyed 2 grandchildren, Dallas and Courtnie (and 5 greats) who he did his best to take traveling anywhere.  After 3 days of skiing on Lake Mead all day and seeing the sights in Las Vegas until midnight, he couldn’t understand how they could be tired!

He lost mom in 1982 and thankfully found Ramona Day to fill the void in his life.  They were married in the Ogden Temple and truly enjoyed 32 years together.  Ramona made his family life complete with her three children Colleen (Jack) Randall, Margaret deceased (Fred) Ybright, and Curtis (Nadine) Day.  Their 14 grandchildren and 41 greats and 1 great-great really made get-togethers the best!

Jack longed to move to St. George (to lay on a hot red rock) so they moved in 2007 and enjoyed 7 years there before Ramona passed away in 2014.  He then returned to live in West Bountiful with Rod’s family.

Jack was a builder, running Wood Construction and at the same time working at Phillips Refinery as well as owning and maintaining rentals.  Three jobs were nothing!

Jack was a life-long member of the LDS Church. He loved the gospel and kept his family close so they could be together forever.

Eventually, it was necessary to move to Heritage Place where he could live close to his beloved sister, Pat.  We cannot thank her enough for her watching over him so sweetly.

He is survived by his siblings; Bill and Pat; son, Rod; step-daughter, Colleen, and step-son, Curtis.  Also 16 grandchildren and 47 greats.

We are especially thankful, for the heartfelt and loving care given at Heritage and by Envsion Hospice.  Also our appreciation for the support of Dad’s best life-long friends, Don Christy, Shirl Hales, and his wonderful neighbor Bob Cicutto.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at the West Bountiful 3rd Ward, 840 North 800 West, West Bountiful.

A viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:45 to 10 :45 a.m. at the Church. Interment at the Lakeview Memorial Cemetery. Online guestbook at www.russonmortury.com
