Jack Oscar Woldberg

Jack Oscar Woldberg passed away peacefully on Friday, December 1, 2017 in Taylorsville, Utah, of natural causes.  He was 98.  Jack was born July 5, 1919 in Salt Lake City to William Oscar and Grace E. Wright Woldberg.  He grew up in Salt Lake City, where he attended West High School and was a member of the ROTC.

A veteran of World War II, Jack served 42 months in the U.S. Air Force as a navigator.  He attended the University of Utah and the Teachers College in Tempe, AZ.  After World War II, Jack began a career with the International Harvester Company, where he was a zone manager.  Later he began working for Mountain Fuel Supply (now known as Questar), and worked there for 25 years, primarily as head of the marketing department, before retiring in 1982.  From the time he was young, Jack was a dedicated, hard worker wherever he worked. 

Jack married Marjorie O’Neil in Salt Lake City on November 22, 1941, before he entered World War II. They were unable to have children. Jack and Marjorie lived in Salt Lake City, where they enjoyed entertaining friends and also enjoyed traveling.  Marjorie died in March 1994, and 2 years later Jack married Sally Olsen Duford on September 4, 1996. They moved to Camarillo, CA, where they lived for 9 years, following which they moved to Kingman, AZ, and later to Salem, OR, where Sally passed away in November 2013.  Following Sally’s death, Jack relocated to Taylorsville, UT.

Ever the active man, Jack was a charter member of the Hi-Steppers Dance Club in Salt Lake City.  He also belonged to the Bonneville Knife and Fork club, the Salt Lake GYRO club, the Sales and Marketing Executives of Utah, the Economic Development Division of the State of Utah, the Producers Council, the Pacific Coast Gas Association, the Utah Golf Association, and various other organizations.

Throughout his life, Jack was a most generous, kind and loving man, always helping those in need.  Jack Oscar Woldberg was a man of great integrity.  He was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on August 8, 2008, at age 89, in Kingman, AZ.  A year later he was endowed in the Salt Lake temple and sealed to his first wife.

Jack is survived by his stepsons, Kevin Duford (Irene), of Gilbert, AZ, and Stephen Duford (Betsy), of Orem, UT; seven step-grandchildren, Michael (Amber), Nichole (Chris), Andrea (Dave), Bryan (Stephanie), Brent (Carrie), Kenny, and Jill (Brian); ten step-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and friends he has made in Salt Lake City, Camarillo and Kingman.  Jack’s grandchildren adored him as their “Papa Jack.”  Truly, he will be missed by his family and friends.  Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Naomi Coates; his nieces, Myrna Baumann, Jeannene Jones and Barbara Thompson; and his wives, Marjorie and Sally.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Russon Brothers Funeral Home, 255 South 200 East, Salt Lake City, with a viewing at 9:00 a.m., one hour prior to the funeral.  Burial will be in the Salt Lake City cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, Jack expressed a desire that money could be contributed in his name to the Arthritis Foundation or the Make A Wish Foundation.
