Jacob Andrew Faragher

Jacob Andrew Faragher died peacefully April 1, 2018 in Bountiful, Utah after a long and active life. He was born January 17, 1924 in Sacramento, California where he spent his growing up years. His parents were Nina Marshall and Stanley Claire Faragher. He served in the Eastern States Mission for the LDS church. He married his sweetheart, Bettie Lou Hallam, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple April 2, 1947. She was a loving wife and mother of ten children. After many wonderful years, Bettie, died February 14, 1982, and he lovingly raised the three children who were still at home. On May 15, 1993, he married Betty Marie Campbell, a wonderful woman he met while serving in the Salt Lake Temple. They enjoyed many years serving as ordinance workers together there. She passed away May 30, 2010.

Jacob had a quick wit and joked with everyone to the end. Humor was such a fun part of his personality. He could memorize easily and often sang funny songs, and recited poems and quirky sayings he had learned in his youth. He had most of the hymns memorized which served him well as his vision faded in his later years.

He had a brilliant mind and never stopped wanting to learn. He excelled in mathematics, problem solving, and music. He loved words and loved to read throughout his life. He read the scriptures, classics, poetry, and books on the presidents. He especially admired Washington, Lincoln, and John Adams.

Jacob loved music and had a beautiful voice harmonizing with his mother as they sang duets when he was a child. He led many ward choirs beginning with his home ward at age 18. He realized a lifelong dream when he sang in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir for 5 years. When Elder Spencer W. Kimball toured the Eastern States Mission, Jacob had the opportunity to sing in a quartet with him.

He worked for Yancey Company, first in the office later as a roofer, before going back to college at the University of Nevada in Reno. He received a degree in mathematics and teaching and taught school for several years. He did graduate work at the University of New Mexico, then worked for Boeing as a computer programmer in Seattle. After two years he moved his family to Utah where he worked for Sperry Univac which later became Unisys. He lived in Bountiful and Centerville for 56 years.

Jacob had a firm testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He loved to serve the Lord and held numerous church positions and especially loved teaching. Until recently he was a home teacher, priesthood chorister, and attended the temple. He never stopped serving in his position as father and priesthood holder.

His grandchildren have happy memories of Sunday evenings playing games, reading books or sharing toys, and singing songs like the Norwegian Hiker and Pease Porridge Hot. Grandpa also liked to attend important events in their lives including blessings, baptisms, ordinations, marriages, graduations and dance programs.

He is survived by his one sister Joanne Williams and his ten children, Kimball (Ann) Faragher, Catherine (Gregory) Davis, Ruth Harris, Carol (William) Wynder, Louise Faragher, Janet (Roger) Brown, Thomas (Jill) Faragher, Barbara (Alan) Hertig, David Faragher, and Diane (Alan) Smith, 44  grandchildren, 92 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Preceded in death by son-in-law, Dennis Harris.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 7, at 11:00 a.m. at the Bountiful Tabernacle, 55 South Main, Bountiful, Utah. Visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, April 6, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful and Saturday morning 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment Bountiful City Cemetery.

Special thanks to his daughters who diligently cared for him, and to Lisa, his angel hospice aid, Amber and Shasta his hospice nurses and the kind staff at Legacy House of Bountiful where he lived since 2013.
