Jacoba L. Hemphill, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, departed this earthly life August 9th, 2014 with her son by her side. Jacoba was born April 13, 1928 in Groningen Netherlands. As a young woman, she was among the first in her family to immigrate to the United States following the end of WWII in 1948.
Jacoba’s strong will and tenacity gave her the strength to overcome many hardships in her life. A spirited, feisty Dutch woman, Jacoba always spoke her mind, even when her opinion was unpopular. Dancing and traveling are some of the many ways Jacoba enjoyed life.
Jacoba is preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Hemphill, granddaughter Megan Elizabeth Hemphill and grandson Lee W. Bronson. Jacoba is survived by her children Rebecca (Bart) Bronson, Thomas (Bridgette) Harding, Arnold Hemphill, Raymond Hemphill, Timothy Hemphill, Robert Hemphill, Edwin (Lisa) Hemphill, Brenda Hemphill; her guardian angel here on earth and faithful companion Merlin J. Mitchell; as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Sunrise of Holladay and Hospice for Utah for their exceptional care, kindness and support.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 15, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Fruit Heights 5th Ward Chapel, 24 S. Country Lane. Family and friends may call Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Russon Brothers Farmington Mortuary, 1941 N. Main St. and Friday afternoon from 1:00-1:45 p.m. at the church prior to services. Interment-Kaysville City Cemetery.
