Biography

James Edward Asay, 62, passed away on January 8, 2015 due to Alzheimer’s disease. He was born in Provo, Utah to Colleen Webb and Carlos Egan Asay. He adored his older sister Marci, competed mightily with his younger brothers Marcus, Brent, Clair, and Tim, and loved his younger sister Carleen (Buffy) unconditionally. He respected, admired, and honored his parents.

He had a joyous childhood in Murray and lived happily in Hawaii, Provo, New York, Texas, Bountiful, Boise, and Farmington throughout his life. He served a mission to New York and spent his professional career in publishing, working his way up from stock clerk to store manager to corporate book buyer. He then joined an independent publisher/wholesaler and eventually bought the publishing company. He loved books and reading.

Although muscular dystrophy limited his ability to play sports, he loved watching the Dallas Cowboys, the BYU Cougars, the Utah Jazz, the Farmington 13th ward softball team, and every team his children played for.

James counted some of the best people on earth as his friends. He loved them fully and deeply. He was grateful for their kindness and friendship.

James’ crowning jewels are his family: Charlotte Garn, (Randy), Katie Kamerath, (Nathan), Matthew, Alyson, Jacob, and Emmeline Wilkey (Wade); his grandchildren: Grace, Halle, Jane, Sadie, Jack, and Max Garn, and Zoe, Millie, and Ella Mae Kamerath; and his former wife, Toni.

The family is deeply grateful to the kind professionals at Welcome Home, Legacy House, Avalon Care Center, and Brighton Hospice. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or the Alzheimer’s Association.
