It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of one of God’s Power Players today. James “Kevin” Barker was received by our Lord and Saviour June 7th, due to a sudden accident at home. He will be severely missed by family, friends, and neighbors alike.
Kevin has always embraced life with fervor and humor. He viewed strangers as potential friends and treated them as such. He loved to be a servant of God and took on that role with purpose. He served a two year mission in New Zealand and developed a deep and abiding love for the people and culture there. Soon after, he married his “Sweetheart”, Jolene Litster, and they began to build their eternal family together. He is survived by his devoted sons; Mathew Barker and his wife, Rachel, Jonathan Barker, and Jeremiah Barker. And the apple of his eye, his daughter, Sandi and her husband Stuart Shoell. His 7 grandchildren, Aubrey, Logan, Isabell, Tracen, Gabriella, and Colin have lost their best papa and buddy.
Kevin continued in his loving walk with the Lord by serving in many capacities in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Some of which included a life long love and devotion to the Boy Scouts program where he got to use his great love of camping, hiking, fishing and appreciation for everything outdoors to serve as a favorite scout master, loved by all he worked with. He also got involved with and served in the Special Needs Youth program where he was also dearly loved and appreciated. He most recently served in his ward Bishopric as a trusted friend and counselor to his Bishop.
Kevin found the humor in any given situation and was gifted with the ability to comfort and draw people together in many of life’s most mundane situations. He loved using his hands and could fix almost anything. You would typically find him helping someone. Especially His mother in law, Janet Danner and her sister Kristie Wernli.
In addition to his nuclear family, Kevin was survived by his siblings; Jerry (Marianne) Barker, Steven (Kim) Barker, and Karen (Neil) Jacobsen. And many neices and nephews.
He was preceded in death by; his son, Daniel Barker, his grandson, Kyler, his parents, Bob and Geraldine Barker, Jolene’s father, Bruce Litster, and his beloved father in law and partner in crimes of humor, Lee Danner. Kevin will be sorely missed by all that knew him. His quick wit, helpful heart, and willingness to show love will be forever remembered.
