James Brent Allred – a master fisherman, avid reader, and loving father and grandfather – passed away peacefully at his home in Bountiful, Utah on August 11th, 2021.
James was born in Logan, Utah to Glade and Verna Allred. At 7 years old, James, his parents, and two brothers moved to Bountiful, Utah, which is where he lived for the remainder of his life. James graduated from Bountiful High School and shortly after married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Ford, on June 4th, 1959. They were sealed by his grandfather in the Manti temple. James served in the U.S. Army Reserve for 4 years, and worked in the trucking industry for over 30 years, retiring in 2000. He was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in many callings.
If given the opportunity, James would have spent his life in a boat on the lake. He loved to fish, and his big fish stories were actually true, having caught a 247-pound Blue Marlin on a fishing excursion in Hawaii. He loved to play cards with his family, especially rummy, where he “somehow” always ended up being crowned the winner. He loved to read, hunt, cook, and watch western movies.
James battled Type I Diabetes for 51 years, which slowed him down, but didn’t stop him from doing the things he loved. An awful disease that he and Shirley fought every day; the great trial of his life.
James is survived by his wife and longtime caregiver, Shirley; children Melanie Curtis, Lisa (Glenn) Palmer, Todd (Debbie) Allred; his 6 grandchildren, and his eldest brother, John (Jean) Allred. He is preceded in death by his parents and his younger brother, Dale Allred. He will be remembered for his quick wit, kindness, and loving heart.
The family wishes to thank South Davis Hospice for their thoughtful service, especially Laura, Pross, and Teresa for their tender care. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Russon Mortuary, 295 N. Main St. Bountiful, followed by a graveside service at the Bountiful City Cemetery, 2224 S. 200 W. Bountiful at 11:00 a.m.
