James Burtman Lyday

February 17, 1946 — February 7, 2017

Born February 17, 1946, to Lois May Lacy and Fitzhugh Lee Lyday in Salt Lake City, Utah;
passed away peacefully, surrounded by loving angels, February 7, 2017.

Jim is survived by his wife of 51 years, Janis Hatch; daughters Terressa (Chris) Hoskins, Jennifer (JD) Anderson, and son Michael Kumar Lyday; 16 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, 1 brother, and 4 grandchildren.

Jim was welcomed into Heaven, and wrapped in the loving arms of his grandchildren: Adam and Emily Anderson, Joshua and Lacy Hoskins; his sweet sisters, Dorothy and Ann, and his beloved mother.

Eager to get to her "Daddy" was Carmen, his beloved chihuahua.  Dad loved that little dog, and she loved him. We are sure they are both enjoying a hamburger together.

Jim attended the University of Utah. He learned the art of brick masonry from his father and worked along side his brother Joe laying brick, specializing in fireplaces. He worked for Phillips (Holly) Petroleum Company for over 38 years; was a Master Electrician and a licensed electrical contractor, serving both private and commercial customers for more than 35 years.  An active member of the LDS faith, he served in many capacities.

He had a love for BYU sports, both football and basketball. He was also an avid Utah Jazz fan. Trains were a passion and he had a Lionel train set that he and his grandsons put together in a room dedicated just to trains.
Music was Jim's escape to a stressful day. Some of his favorite artists were Buddy Holly, The Beach Boys, Elvis and many more. His favorite question was, "Who sings this?"; always trying, and usually succeeding, to stump us.

Friends and family were invited to call Wednesday evening , February 15, 2017,  at Russon Brothers Mortuary (Bountiful, UT).

Funeral services were held Thursday, February 16, 2017, at the Porter Lane Ward (Centerville, UT).
