Bountiful, Utah - It is with profound love that we announce the passing of James Larry Earl, a cherished husband, devoted father, and beloved friend, who passed away on January 11, 2025, at the age of 81.

James was born on September 15, 1943, in Los Angeles, California, to James and Dorthy Rowe Thompson. After his father passed away when James was only 2 years old, Dorthy remarried Rex Earl, who formally adopted James at the age of 8, forming a bond that would shape his future.

James graduated from Box Elder High School in 1961 and continued his education at Utah State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Pre-Law and a Master's degree in Political Science. During his college years, James played collegiate golf for the Aggies, showcasing his passion for the sport and for Utah State.

On February 16, 1970, James married Barbara Earl in the Logan Utah LDS Temple, beginning a beautiful journey together. James's dedication extended to his service in the military, enlisting in the Idaho National Guard in 1968 in the Armor Cavalry Division, where he was the Honors Graduate at Officer Candidate School. After six years, he transferred to the Utah Army National Guard and transitioned to Field Artillery, retiring in 1995 at the rank of Lt. Colonel.

Following his military career, James served as the Executive Director of the Lincoln Center Association of Brigham City, where he played a pivotal role in founding the Boys and Girls Club of Brigham City, now known as the Boys and Girls Clubs of Northern Utah. His efforts also helped secure CDBG funding to build the Box Elder Community Pantry at its current location. James's commitment to youth continued as he served on the Utah Board of Youth Corrections.

James furthered his dedication to education as the Assistant Director of the Brigham City Regional Campus for Utah State University and as an adjunct lecturer, teaching Political Science and U.S. Institutions. His passion for learning and mentoring left a lasting impact on many students.

James was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served and contributed to the community.
