Our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend, James Gary Powell, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 15, 2021 in Kaysville, Utah. He was born on December 16, 1931 in St. Anthony, Idaho, the son of Lewis and Maria Housley Powell. James served in the United States Navy during the Korean war for almost 4 years before he married Darlene Renee’ Ogilvie on May 13, 1955 in the Salt Lake Temple. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, served a church service mission with Renee’ at the Family History Library, served as a temple worker in the Bountiful Temple, and served at the Kaysville Bishops’ Storehouse. He is survived by his children Tanya Platt, York (Marque), Linetta (Jeff) Moyes, Shawn (Britt) and Tricia (Jason) Dryer; 19 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren with one on the way. Preceded in death by his wife, parents, siblings Warren, Ida Lambert, Harvey, Joe and Venna Copping and son-in-law Brian Platt.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Val Verda 6th Ward chapel at 2651 S. 500 W. Bountiful, Utah. Friends and family may call from 6-8 pm on Friday, May 21, 2021 at Russon Mortuary, 295 N. Main, Bountiful and from 9:45 – 10:45 am at the church prior to services. James will be buried beside his beloved wife, Renee’, at the Lakeview Memorial Cemetery in Bountiful, Utah. Services will be live streamed on Russon Mortuary & Crematory Facebook page and on this obituary page.
