James (Jim) Emmett Cook

June 4, 1940 — May 17, 2018

James Emmett Cook was born June 4, 1940, in Portsmouth, Ohio, to Roy Cook and Opal
Lykins Cook. Roy was killed December 1943 in WWII, so Opal, Jim and older sister Laura moved in with maternal grandfather James Lykins, a mechanic at whose side Jim learned a life-long love of cars.
Opal moved the children to Bountiful, Utah when Jim was 11. He attended Stoker Elementary and Davis Jr. High, and graduated from BHS in 1958. Growing up was accomplished amid the friendships of the “old (Bountiful LDS) 3rd Ward gang.”
Jim’s organizational skills were utilized in the US Army reserves and at his employment with Sperry Univac and Kraft Foods. His love of sales eventually drew him to work at Barlow Trailer Sales (where he discovered the thrill of racing Polaris snowmobiles), ARCO Industries, Wilson Supply, and Doug Smith Auto Sales. He remained in car sales until his retirement in 2004, faithful to Chrysler-Jeep as the business transferred through the hands of Dan Eastman, Barry Engle, and Larry Miller. Nothing gave him greater satisfaction than finding for the customer the very best vehicle to fit their budget (although a Jazz win and a perfect hamburger were close seconds).
Jim found great joy as a member of the LDS church, most recently in the WX 3rd Ward. Highlights were opportunities for service in the Bountiful Temple, and on the WX North Stake High Council, creating wonderful new friendships as he fulfilled assignments.
Jim is survived by his adored wife, Linda Menzel (Gold) Cook, whom he married in 2002, and to whom he was sealed in the Bountiful Temple in 2003. Also surviving are his children: Todd (Karin) Cook and Traci (David) Eisenberg and their mother, Joalene Ostler Winston;  Stephanie (Miles) Collins, Jamie (Rob) Ellison, Brett Cook and Ryan (Lindsey) Cook and their mother, Elaine Kerr Cook. He had a great love for his children and his 16 grandchildren and 6.5 great-grandchildren. He also embraced Linda’s girls: Meredith (Chance) Cook, Aly Gold, and Natalie (Traek) Malan who added 12 more grandchildren to his clan.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 21, 2018 at the Woods Cross 3rd Ward, 1450 South 350 West, Bountiful. A viewing will be held Sunday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, and Monday morning 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services.
