James Wayne Mason, 93, passed away Sunday, November 16th, 2014 peacefully at home in Bountiful, UT.
Wayne was born in Lehi, Utah on August 21, 1921 to Victor W. Mason and Clara Jane Young. He was the youngest of four children. His family moved to Bountiful when Wayne was 4 years old. He graduated from Davis High School.
Two early experiences changed the focus of his life: First, an LDS Mission to the East Central States where at the end of his mission he met a beautiful young woman, Lucille Ferguson. Second, the two years of Service in the Air Corp during World War II in India during which time he and Lucille corresponded. Those experiences transformed him from an adored, fun-loving Utah boy to a man who was unfailingly empathetic to the needs of others and focused on providing a nurturing environment for the woman he loved and the family they created together.
Wayne and Lucille were married and sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple by President Spencer W. Kimball, June 14th, 1946. Wayne retired from the US Postal Service as Postmaster in Bountiful City after 30 years of service. He served in many church callings: High Counselor, Bishop, Temple Ordinance worker and Temple Sealer in both Salt Lake and Bountiful Temples, and together they served as Missionaries in the Manila Philippines Temple.
Wayne leaves behind his wife and sweetheart of 68 years, Lucille, children Linda (the late Donald Arthur), Victor (Judy), David (Verlee), the late George Mason (Marla), Patricia (Richard Tueller), Andrew (De Nise) and his sister, Verna (and the late Frank Bowen), 18 Grandchildren, 27 Great-Grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends, and ‘The Gang.’ He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Alvin and Sister Eva and many friends.
