James "Reid" Stevenson

February 9, 1939 — October 6, 2013

A little less laughter in the world today. This weekend the world lost one of its funniest people. James Reid Stevenson, age 74, passed away on October 6, 2013. For those of you who knew Reid you might think this is a prank, but now he’s making people laugh in a better place.
Reid lived a very active life and never let his polycystic kidney disease slow him down. Even at the very end of his life he was planning his next trip to Bear Lake or fishing with his grandchildren. HE LOVED HIS GRANDKIDS! He was born on February 9, 1939 to Kenneth A. Stevenson and Letha Howell Stevenson in Montpelier, Idaho. Reid married his best friend and high school sweetheart Sharon Lea Tolley on September 19, 1958 in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. Together they have five children, ten grandchildren and three (almost four) great grandchildren. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Reid served in several positions in the church, but the one he’ll be remembered for is Scout Master. For 30 plus years he camped, hiked, rappelled and influenced dozens of young lives. Reid’s incredible leadership was also felt as a manager at United Airlines. He spent 40 years helping customers and making his co-workers laugh.
Reid touched lives wherever he served, lived or worked. He loved to laugh and had a talent for playing practical jokes. His reputation as a prankster is unprecedented. Reid loved to serve others, he loved the Lord and he loved history. It was the perfect combination for the two LDS missions he served with his wife at Martin’s Cove. Reid is survived by his wife, Sharon and his children Toni (Jim) Eddington, Kurt (Carla) Stevenson, Mike (Marie) Stevenson and Nicole (Jason) Denne. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers and daughter Hallie.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 12th at the Fruit Heights 2nd ward building at 77 S. Orchard Dr., 1325 East Fruit Heights, Utah. Friends and family may visit Friday, between 6 and 8 p.m., at Russon Brothers Mortuary 1941 N. Main, Farmington or Saturday, 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the church.
