James Robert Smith, born June 16, 1933 in Crawfordsville, Indiana to James T. and Helena Hartman passed away September 15, 2017 in Farmington, Utah at the age of 84. He was the youngest of four children.
Jim joined the Army at age 17 and proudly served for 24 years, having fought in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was stationed in Germany for 9 years where he met his wife Helga, and they moved back to the United States where he was stationed at Fort Ord, California. They moved to Salinas, California after Jim retired from the Army and he worked for McCormick Schillings where he supervised security. After retirement Jim and Helga moved to Farmington, Utah. Jim loved golf and fishing.
Jim is survived by his wife Helga Smith, Sons, Jim (Cathy), Thomas Michael, Grandchildren Jessica (Nicolas) Cronin, Jennifer (Shawn) Cordier, Jeremy Smith and Heather (Jonathan) Spratley, seven great grandchildren (Wesley, Lily, Kamryn, Penelope, Jonathan, Oliver and Jaxon), and Brother in Law Thomas Findlay.
Services will be held on Saturday, September 23rd at 11 am at Russon Mortuary, 1941 North Main Street, Farmington, UT 84025. Visiting hour from 10-11.
