James "Vince" Richard Vincent

March 29, 1926 — January 3, 2017

Ninety years ago on March 29, 1926 James R. Vincent made his appearance in Salt Lake City.  He was the third child born to Harry Burns Vincent and Lavern Petersen Vincent.  Shortly thereafter Harry Vincent moved his little family to Ogden, where Jim grew up.  He graduated from Ogden High School, and in his senior year he enlisted in the Air Corp.  He had been in the Cadet Training School only a few months when the war ended.  (While in the Air Corp he became friends with a young boy from Price named Bill Olson. Bill influenced his life in many ways.)   Jim was grateful for being able to serve his country because in turn he was able to attend the university earning a degree in Accounting.

All the time Vince was attending the U he and Bill remained close friends, and when he graduated, Bill urged him to come work as an accountant for his dad, Slim Olson.  That was Slim Olson’s World’s Largest Service Station—forty-Three Pumps.  In 1949, right after Labor Day weekend, Vince started working for Slim Olson.  Vince worked there for sixty-six years retiring October 2015) He enjoyed working with 3 generations of Olson, Slim, Bill and later Doug and Keith.

Once again Bill played a major role in Vince’s life.  Bill’s girlfriend said she had a sorority sister who would be just perfect for his friend.  So, they arranged a blind date, but this could not happen until after deer-hunting season.  Deer-hunting was far more important than a blind date.  After the big hunt Vince met Donna Mae King, and this was the girl he married ten months later.  Last August they celebrated their sixty-fourth anniversary.}

As a recreation Vince loved playing golf and joined Oakridge Country Club in 1957.  During the fifty-nine years he was a member he made many friends and served a term as the president of the club. He enjoyed playing golf in the Investment Group making many lifelong friends.  He and Donna were partners in the in duplicate bridge group.

Vince was preceded in death by his brother Bob Vincent, sister Marjorie Webb and sister Maryanna McLaughlin.  He is survived by his wife Donna, daughter Paula (Chuck) Baker and daughter, Laurel (Kitt) Robertson, six grandchildren Andrea, Ann, Vincent, Ashley, Hailey and Chris and Hey had and six great grandchildren, Braxen, Kellen, Ryker, Kate, Abby, and Russell.
