“I can do hard things”, is the motto James Carl, “Jim” Wencel lived by, and the legacy he left behind to his wife of 20 years, Cindy Deneall Etherington, and his eight children Rachelle, Hana, Kele, Camilla, Emma, Adam, Julia and Aaron.
Jim was born June 9, 1959 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to George Henry Wencel and Charlotte Ann Magnusson. Jim fulfilled a childhood dream of becoming a Locomotive Engineer. He worked for various Railroads since he was 19 and was recently employed by the Union Pacific Railroad.
Jim suffered a stroke when he was 37 years old, but overcame great odds to continue to support his family and enjoy life. Jim was an avid reader and took pleasure in running, weight lifting, tennis, telling jokes, and spending time with his family. He married his sweetheart on October 8, 1993 in the Manti Temple. Jim was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints having served in many callings.
Jim passed away May 16, 2014. He is survived by his wife and children, his mother and three sisters; Barbara Gosewisch, Sandra Hukriede, and Judith (Jeff) Pearson. His father and two brother-in-laws preceded him in death.
