Jan Marie West Golightly (50) passed away in her home on February 22, 2017 after a long, hard-fought battle with Stage Four Breast Cancer. She was born on September 5, 1966 in Ogden, Utah to Reed Z and DeLoris Peterson West. Jan lived in Fruit Heights, Utah throughout her youth.
Jan is a graduate of Davis High School in Kaysville, Utah and from the LDS Seminary Program. She also attended one semester at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. Jan had been working during the summers at the Three Bear Lodge in Yellowstone National Park when she met her eternal companion Elroy Golightly. They married in the Salt Lake Temple in March 29th of 1985. Soon after, Jan began working in the bakery at Bowman's grocery store in Kaysville, Utah, eventually becoming the cake decorator, creating wedding and birthday cakes for many.
Jan’s many hobbies included cross stitching, reading, tole painting, scrap booking, sewing, quilting, and making cards for all occasions. In her spare time Jan also enjoyed jewelry making, hiking, camping with her family, and tending to the many flower beds around her home.
Jan’s favorite holiday was Christmas. She loved baking cookies with her family and would spend time with her children icing gingerbread and hanging them on the Christmas tree. The whole house would get involved in decorating their home with decorations Jan had made over the years.
Jan was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many callings. Soon after her marriage, Jan was called as a nursery leader and helped organize child care for Relief Society activities for many different wards. She later became a primary teacher and has served as the Young Woman's secretary and Relief Society secretary. She has served as the webelos leader in scouting for the last 2 years and has helped her husband in his calling as scout committee chairman.
