Ida Jane Soderberg, 91, our beloved mother passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 28, 2022, surrounded by her loving children. She was our light, guide, counselor and example.
Jane was born July 25, 1930, to Archibald and Winifred “Gwen” Dunn Andersen in Salt Lake City, Utah. She attended East High School and the University of Utah before marrying her sweetheart, A. Perry Soderberg, in the Salt Lake Temple, March 21, 1951. They were happily married for 58 years until his death in 2009. They made their home in Salt Lake City and Bountiful and started their family.
Jane was always interested in enriching her life and that of her family. She showed us how important learning and service were through taking every opportunity to volunteer and serve. As a young mother in Bountiful, she helped start a literary group called the Ladies of Altiora. She excelled in cooking, sewing, decorating, gardening and loved to teach and share those skills.
Perry worked for Mountain Bell and AT&T where his work took the family to Denver, Colorado, and then to Berkeley Heights, New Jersey. As we moved, Mom displayed a positive and uplifting attitude. Wherever we lived she likewise enriched the lives of others. During those years our parents created a beautiful home and family life.
They returned to Utah in 1972, to join many old friends and family. Upon returning to Utah, she joined Altiora again as a founding member and continued to enjoy activities and friendships with them until her death. In addition, our parents enjoyed an association with many lifelong friends known as the “Dinner Group”.
She worked in the Church Office Building in the Public Communications office for Wendel Ashton. Then she took on a new adventure working as a medical assistant for Dr. Grant L. Christian, where she worked for 30 years, retiring at the age of 80. She loved caring for and helping the patients and their families.
She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was tireless in her service to others, serving willingly in any church organization. She determined to have the goal of serving in the temple every Friday morning at 6:00 am. She faithfully kept that promise which blessed her life as well as all those she served.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Perry, her parents, three brothers and her sister. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Robert C. (Judy) Soderberg; her four children, Connie (Larry-deceased) Wilcox, Ann (Kent) Miller, Karen (Jeff) Beal and Dave. She is also survived by 9 loving grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren, soon to be 26.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 7, 2022, at the Bountiful Lakeview Ward Chapel, 455 South 1200 East. A viewing will be held in the evening Wednesday, July 6, 2022, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Bountiful Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, and Thursday from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment at 2:00 p.m. Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, Salt Lake City, Utah.
We would like to thank Dr. Joshua Oaks and Elevation Hospice, especially Liz, Sam and Monica for their skilled and gentle care and kindness to our family.
