Our beloved mother and grandmother, Janet Compton Hatch, passed away on April 18, 2024. She was the oldest daughter of Lane Albert Compton and June Lucile Wheeler Compton.
She lived most of her adult life with debilitating chronic pain, bedridden for the last 10 years of her life. While bedridden she wrote nine family history books with extensive histories of her ancestors.
Her first priority was her four children and nine grandchildren. She was known amongst them for her treasure hunts to express her love. She was always active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, even serving while she was in bed.
She earned a BS degree in education at BYU with a minor in music. She served as a full-time missionary in the California North Mission, was stake MIA president at BYU serving over 1500 students, was first counselor in the North Canyon Stake Relief Society for five years, served in organizations in the church and was organist/pianist in Relief Society/Primary/Sacrament meetings.
She taught elementary school for 22 years and tutored students in reading over a period of 15 years. She had a special talent and gift for teaching reading to children who struggled to learn this skill. She deeply loved these students and often invested extra time and effort to help them feel loved, important and capable. She also taught piano. She loved the pipe organ and religious music.
She and Denton Hatch divorced in 1995. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, John Denton Hatch.
She is survived by her children: Michelle and husband Freeman Linton of Sunnyvale, Texas; daughter-in-law Elizaveta Dzhatdoeva, wife of the late John Hatch of Bellevue, Washington; Stephen Hatch and wife Tanya Walquist of Kaysville, Utah; and Denise and husband Nolan Kassamatis of Saratoga Springs, Utah. She is also survived by her ten grandchildren: Tyler Linton, Anslie Linton, Tucker Linton, Asher Linton, Alex Hatch, Nicolas Hatch, Zachary Hatch, Trevor Hatch, Savannah Hatch, and Isabelle Hatch; and her siblings Sandra Compton Glade, Kent Compton, Bruce Compton, and Christine Compton Porter. She was overjoyed by the anticipation of an eleventh grandchild, expected to be born August 2024.
