Janet Claire Jacobs Jones, age 78, passed on from this life peacefully November 20, 2023, in Bountiful, Utah.
Janet was the third and youngest child of Jetta Christensen and Jerald Sphar Jacobs. She was born on July 14, 1945 in Long Beach, California. Her childhood there was idyllic, with summers spent in Idaho at a family cabin. She attended Brigham Young University where she graduated with a BA degree in clothing and textiles. At BYU she met and fell in love with the captain of the football team Monte Jones, whom she married in the Los Angeles Temple on January 2, 1969.
Together they began their life in Nampa, Idaho where Monte was a high school teacher and the football and wrestling coach. They welcomed their first child, a son, while living in Nampa. They then relocated to Emery County where Monte was the head football coach for a year, but the small town proved to be too much for the big city girl.
Moving to Centerville, Utah they built a home overlooking the Great Salt Lake so Monte could start teaching at Viewmont High School. There her two daughters joined the family. These three children have been the joy of her life. Always interested and supportive of her children's educational and extracurricular activities Jan was a PTA worker, room mother, soccer coach and mom, taxi driver, seamstress, beautician, cheerleader, homemaker, teacher, brow beater to practice the piano, a missionary mom, craft queen, card maker, needlework and cross stitch lover, American Cancer Society volunteer, cook, hostess, Daughter of the Utah Pioneers, and Mom to all her children's friends. This was all done as she overcame, battled and survived breast cancer for 40 years.
The Gospel of Jesus Christ has been central to her life, and she has loved serving in the Relief Society and Primary both at Ward and Stake levels. She volunteered at the Bountiful Temple for 16 years, from the day it opened.
Fabulous memories have been made as a family as the family has traveled the world together from Greece to Holland to Australia. Yearly family vacations have been spent at their cabin in the Sawtooth Mountains in Idaho and visiting family in California and Oregon. Grandchildren and wonderful son-in-laws and daughter-in-laws have added to the family over the years and brought even more love and joy to the family. Jan continued to be a very close and involved mother and grandmother in her children and grandchildren's lives.
Jan has been preceded in death by Jerald S. Jacobs (father), Jetta Christensen (mother), Joyce and Joe Hamula (sister and husband), and Nan and Monte Jones (in-laws).
Jan is survived by her husband Monte. Their son Jeff Jones (Sara), and daughters Jennifer Jones Scott (Darran), and Jill Jones Deskins (Aaron). She is survived by nine grandchildren Abby Jones, Emily Jones, Garrett Jones, David Deskins, Allison Deskins, Bridget Deskins, Christopher Deskins, Swayzie Thomas, and Maci Thomas. And brother Jerry Jacobs (Diane).
Jan and her family are grateful for all the care providers from Ovations Hospice, the care staff at Creekside Assisted Living, and the incredible doctors and care team at Huntsman Cancer Institute who helped her fight for so many years.
