Biography

Jay Tyler Beck (79), 5th of 11 children, was born in Parker, Idaho on April 21, 1932 to Ira and Delilah Beck. He died on March 5, 2012 of leukemia, a tender mercy of the Lord, sparing him from Alzheimer’s/Vascular Dementia, which he endured with grace for too many years.
Jay graduated from South Fremont High School in 1951. At 19 he joined the US Air Force, serving four years during the Korean War. Following an LDS mission to the Eastern States in 1955-57, he attended BYU where he graduated in 1962. Jay taught school for 33 years, 31 being at Viewmont High School. He served as student body advisor, senior class advisor, and night school and community school director. Over his career Jay taught hundreds of students, enjoying their company and celebrating their successes.
Jay married Beth Quist in the Salt Lake Temple, September 19, 1960. They raised four children. Jay was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Holding many callings, his favorite was working on the stake farm. Jay willingly helped others in many capacities. He was an honest, hardworking, kind man with a sense of humor who loved children and animals, the theatre and symphony, reading, gardening, and traveling.
