Dr. Jay Norman Jeppsen 1926-2011

Beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend, Jay Norman Jeppsen, 85, of Bountiful, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on April 2, 2011. He was born in Mantua, Utah, on March 17, 1926 to Norman Nels Jeppsen and Josie Deloris Jensen Jeppsen. He was the only boy surrounded by 5 loving sisters. He grew up in Mantua, Utah and graduated from Box Elder High School in 1944, where he was the Senior Class President. Immediately after high school graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he became part of the Navy Medical Corps. After WWII, Jay returned home and was then called to fulfill an LDS mission to his ancestral homeland of Denmark. He served there for 2 years. At the age of 23, Jay began as a freshman at BYU. While there he met Helen Jeanne Jones of Provo, and they were married in 1952 in the Salt Lake Temple. Jay entered the University of Missouri at Kansas City Dental School that same year and graduated in 1956. After graduation, he and his family settled in Bountiful, where he established his dental practice. Jay was a skilled and respected dentist who was appreciated by his many patients throughout his 47 year career. Jay was actively involved in church and community service. He was a gifted organist and has provided beautiful music for many church meetings. He was a Rotarian and served as Bountiful Rotary President from 1978-1979. He was a member of the Davis County Board of Health for 10 years, serving as chairman for a term. Jay, along with his wife, Helen, was an untiring advocate for mentally disabled individuals and served on many committees on the State level. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in various capacities. Jay was fortunate to be a member of the Bountiful Hills Ward, where he was surrounded by people who graciously and generously attended to him. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Helen, and sister, Ardis Piers. He is survived by his five childrenPam (Bob) Wing, Jody (Bob) Griffiths, Paul (Gina) Jeppsen, David Jeppsen, Michelle Ables, 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and four sistersKarma Dixon, Gloria Dyches, Clarice Williams, and Arnel Schneider. Our father will be remembered for his patience, gentle nature, love, and devotion to the gospel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 7, 2011 at the Bountiful Hills Ward, 1190 East Bountiful Hills Drive. Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church on the day of the funeral. A viewing will be held Wednesday, April 6, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful. Interment at Bountiful City Cemetery.
