Jay Linnoy Long died of natural causes March 1, 2017 in Bountiful, Utah. Jay was born April 6, 1924 in Magna, Utah to Maggie Maydell Huggins and John Royal Long. He married Betsy Maxine Bailey Wyatt on November 5, 1951 in Wellsville Utah. They were later sealed in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. After more than 60 years together Betsy passed away July 20, 2012.
Jay spent his childhood and teenage years in Logan, Utah and Idaho Falls, Idaho. He joined the United States Navy and served for 14 years, serving in both the Pacific campaign of World War II and the Korean conflict. After the service he worked as a technical writer for Sperry Univac until he retired, then owned and operated Family History Publishers in Bountiful, Utah.
He enjoyed camping and fishing with his family, and was an avid fan of BYU football and basketball. Jay and Betsy served faithfully in the Salt Lake Temple as ordinance workers for 19 years.
Jay is survived by his children, Mary Ellen (David) Barss, Richard (Carolyn) Long, Patricia (Peter) Foster, Lisa (Robert) Vandegrift, 18 grandchildren and 45 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Sherry (Jerry) Bailey, sister-in-law Carmen (Thell) Long. Preceded in death by his parents, his wife, siblings Venice Long Bowen, Thell Long, Fawn Long, and Mary Long.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Envision Hospice and Heritage Place Assisted Living in Bountiful, along with the doctors, nurses, and staff at Legacy Hospice and Lakeview Hospital for their compassionate service to Jay and to the members of his family during this difficult time.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 6 at 11:00 a.m. at the Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, Utah. Family and friends may call Sunday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the mortuary and Monday from 9:45-10:45 a.m prior to services. Interment will be in the Bountiful City Cemetery.
