Jay R. Lowe was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. Surrounded by family, he passed peacefully November 18th at the age of 90 from injuries sustained in a fall. Jay was born in Franklin, ID on December 18th, 1926. He grew up in south eastern Idaho and after high school served in the Army during WWII and later served an LDS mission in the Northwestern States Mission.
He met the love of his life Pauline Ray and they were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on August 3rd 1951. They celebrated 66 years of marriage together and had 7 children. They made many friends in each of the areas they lived including; Pocatello, ID; Arco, ID; Springville, UT; Woods Cross, UT; Grace, ID; and Bountiful, UT.
He graduated with his PhD in Philosophy from BYU. He worked for LDS Church Education until his retirement in 1992 where he worked as a seminary and institute teacher, editor over Church Educational System curriculum, teacher and counselor at the Salt Lake County Jail and just prior to retirement he was called to help setup the LDS Church Educational system in Ghana and Nigeria, Africa.
Jay loved to learn and was an avid reader. He would frequently buy copies of his favorite books to share with anyone that he felt might benefit. He was also an avid fisherman and found great joy in sharing that time with his children and grandchildren. Growing up he was involved in sports and his love of sports continued throughout his life and he always looked forward to watching BYU and the Utah Jazz.
Jay was a man of great faith and loved our Savior Jesus Christ, dedicating his life to serving and teaching about our Savior. He was a kind and gracious man and was loved by all those that knew him, devoting his life to family and the service of others. He bore powerful testimony of the power of Faith, Hope and Charity.
Jay is survived by his wife Pauline Lowe and 6 children: Cris (Melissa) Lowe; Paula (Dave) Madsen; Richard Lowe; Kathy (Neal) Roberts; Roger (Kathy) Lowe; Robert (Ann) Lowe; 17 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; and his Nigerian daughter Patience Ogbuli . He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Phillip Lowe.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 25, 2017 at the Bountiful 7th Ward, 1250 South Main. A viewing will be held Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Russon Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, and Saturday morning 9-9:45 am at the church prior to services. Interment-Grace, Idaho.
