Jean Ann Ashby

Jean Ashby passed away at her home on September 17, 2023. She was born May 3, 1937, to Einer and Vera Gustavson in Murray, UT. She attended Granite High School and later Brigham Young University where she met her sweetheart of 64 years, Ralph Ashby. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple in 1959 and went on to raise 5 sons. She loved her boys and worked tirelessly to raise and teach them. Being together as a family was important to her and she always planned the best family holiday gatherings that included intense Bingo games with “awesome” prizes. She was also known for her holiday sugar cookies and cupcakes. Always working with her hands, she would sew clothes, drapes and quilts, crochet afghans, knit hats, scrapbook, and create cards for any occasion. She even took her creative skills beyond family and friends to decorating cakes for Dick’s Market Bakery. 

Jean loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ and served for many years in the Relief Society and in the temple. The scriptures were never far from reach. She saw three of her sons off on missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. 

Jean was preceded in death by her sons, Gary and Kevin, and her younger sister Julie Jewett. She is survived by her husband Ralph and her sons, Craig (LoriAnn) Ashby, Kyle (Kimberly) Ashby, and Kristopher (Christina) Ashby, 11 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Elevation Hospice for their care during the last few days of her life.

Jean's funeral services will be held in conjunction with her husband's services at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 26^th, 2023, at the Centerville 8^th Ward church building, 210 E 1825 N, Centerville, UT. Viewings will be held on Monday, September 25^th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Russon Mortuary, 295 N Main, Bountiful, UT and Tuesday from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be at the Centerville City Cemetery following the services.

Services will be streamed live on the Russon Mortuary & Crematory Facebook page and on this obituary page.  The live stream will begin about 10-15 minutes prior to the service and will be posted below.
