Jean Brown Bowen

March 7, 1923 — June 23, 2016

Our sweet mom, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend passed away peacefully on June 23, 2016 at Legacy House in Bountiful, Utah.
Jean was born at home in Bountiful on March 7, 1923 to William A. and Lucy Briggs Brown, the 4th of 6 children. During the Depression her family moved to Spanish Fork and later returned to Bountiful in time for Jean to attend her Senior year at Davis High. After graduation she attended Henager Business College studying type and shorthand. During World War II she worked at Hill Field in the typing pool.
She married Allen S. "Doc" Bowen on November 16, 1945 in the Salt Lake Temple. They lived in Spanish Fork until 1950 when he reenlisted in the Army and was sent to the Korean War. During Doc's Army career they were transferred frequently, eventually living in Oklahoma, California, Texas, Alaska, New Jersey and Wisconsin. In 1967 Doc retired from the Army and they returned to Bountiful where she lived for the next 48 years.
Jean loved to garden and grow vegetables. She also loved to fish with Doc and her grandsons, and usually caught the most.
She was a member of the LDS Church and served as Primary President, MIA President, Relief Society Counselor, and was quilt director for more than 40 years. She always had a strong testimony of her Savior Jesus Christ.
She was an excellent homemaker and seamstress, and was always busy reading, crocheting and doing cross stitch. After Doc died in 1999 she tried to fill her time until she could be reunited with him.
She is survived by her son Richard (Ann) Bowen of Magna and her daughter Shauna (Michael) Slatter of Park City, seven grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held Tuesday, June 28 from 6-8 pm at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 N. Main, Bountiful. Funeral services will be held Wednesday June 29 at 11 am at the Bountiful East Stake Center, 600 E. 2150 So., Bountiful with a viewing from 9:30 to 10:30 am.
