Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, Jean Hyde Waite, passed away peacefully in his home April 13, 2013 at the age of 84. Jean was born July 14, 1928, in Hyde Park, Utah, to Oneita Hyde Waite and Evander Lee Waite. Raised on a farm, he learned from an early age the importance of honesty, industry and thrift. In 1951 he married his sweetheart Helen L Lamb in the Logan Temple. They had 6 children who were the center of their lives. In 1995 Jean lost his beloved wife Helen to cancer after 44 wonderful years together.
In 1997 he married Marilyn B. Noyes. They spent 15 happy years together, enjoying grandchildren, family, friends, and traveling. They also served in the Logan LDS temple for 6 years, and a LDS Church Education mission in New Haven, CT. Marilyn lovingly cared for Jean as his health declined in the last few years of his life.
Jean was a faithful and devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. In 1951 he served a mission to Texas, and as a home teacher, on many high councils, in bishoprics and as bishop.
Jean graduated from North Cache High School and earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Utah State University and a doctorate degree from BYU. He began his career teaching in the LDS Church Education System, and later completed a distinguished career in public education as a teacher, principal, and superintendent.
Jean served in the US Air Force stationed in Korea. He used his off-duty hours in service to the Korean people and was instrumental in building an LDS chapel and children’s school.
From his boyhood Jean was an avid fisherman and hunter. His fondest memories include time in the outdoors with his father, uncles, brothers and sons.
Jean was a man without guile. He was gentle, patient and kind to all. Our beloved father and grandfather was the patriarch and anchor to his family. He led an exemplary Christ-like life. He loved unconditionally and had an immense capacity to love and accept all those around him. Though absent in person, his influence and example will remain an enduring power for good in the lives of his posterity for generations to come.
Jean is survived by his wife, Marilyn, his children: Rebecca Rasmussen, Janet Peterson Ford (Justin), Mark (Eileen), Jeffrey, Jason (Vanessa), Lance (Laura) and 27 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, also his stepsons Dallas (GayWyn) Noyes, Harold (Jacalyn) Noyes, and Jeffery (Kirsten) Noyes, his brothers Rod (Pat) Waite, Ken (Barbara) Waite. Jean was pre-deceased by three beloved siblings, Lee, Joyce and Mary.
