Jeanette Ann Bredthauer Day was born in the Holy Cross hospital in Salt Lake City, October 6, 1948. She is the eldest child of seven children born to Henry and Marian Bredthauer. Her mother's maiden name is Barg from Danish descendants and her father was born in Germany.
Henry immigrated to the United States as a child with his parents and siblings. Jeanette's German grandparents spoke German, thereby she distinguished her German grandparents as Opa and Oma.
Jeanette had a quiet demeanor but assertive when needed. Her gentleness, kindness, always quick to observe, and being a good listener won the affection of all that knew her. As a conscientious hard worker, she never wasted time or money and her life was one of service with no nonsense or fluff. Her sense of humor and wit was unique to her, as well.
She learned to play the piano, trumpet, cook, sew, and garden. She was called to be the chorister in primary at age 16. She worked her way through college after graduating from Viewmont High in 1967 at Utah Power & Light as a clerk.
After graduating from Utah State in 1972 she pursued a lifetime career as a teacher in the Utah State Public Schools. Living in Vernal, Utah she taught at Maeser in the Elementary grades and one year in the Junior High. After seven years as a single adult enjoying YMYW activities in her area, including dances, camp outs, green river rafting, biking and firesides, she moved to Bountiful where she bought a house in the area and taught an additional 32 years in the Salt Lake City School District. At Washington Elementary where she taught for fourteen years, her principal was her bishop, Dr. Lamb. She, also, taught at Backman Elementary, Riley, Nibley Park, and Lincoln Elementary.
She met her husband through an associate at University of Utah while enrolled in a master's program, there. On December 18, 1982 she married and sealed her love at the Ogden Temple before it was remodeled and rededicated.
December 22, 1985 with her husband Vaughn Buhler Day and her four children, then, moved into their dream home in Layton, where she spent the rest of her remaining life,
March 4, 2013 through September 4, 2014. She and her husband served a full-time Mission to Tampico, Mexico, where she learned Spanish and loved the Mexican people and found friends she never would have met had she not sacrificed for that mission and calling.
She loved being in the kitchen, garden, and sewed several home-made blankets and quilts for family and grand babies. She canned tomatoes, applesauce, peaches, and fruit juices from her garden, and gave plates of home-made rolls and jams she made to neighbors and friends at Christmas and special occasions.
Her regret in leaving this life unexpected, was leaving her husband, children, and grandchildren, and unborn grand babies, without being with them through the upcoming years and events in their lives.
In her youth she played softball, basketball, and tennis with her husband later in life. Her favorite color was royal blue, and for her favorite flower the carnation. She didn't want to die until all of her flowers; specifically the daffodils and tulips blossomed in Spring which brought her joy before her passing Thursday evening April 19th, 2018.
She is survived by her husband, children Jason (Cyntlea) Day Layton; Laura (Jim) Rands, Clearfield; Kathryn (Matt) Lund, Ogden; Charlotte (Caleb) Bott, Aurora, CO.; Simon (Staci) Day, Centerville, and 11 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
