On Tuesday, March 15, 2016, Jefferson Slade Mathews slipped beyond the veil to his heavenly home. Slade was born October 9, 1936 in Bluebell, Utah. He was the tenth of eleven children born to Claude Albert and Alice Winkler Mathews. Slade was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held many callings, but none were more important than being a husband, father and grandfather. He lived for his family and was always there for them.
Slade is survived by his sweetheart of 43 years, Gwen Goble Alvey Mathews, children; Mike (Laurie) Alvey, Debbie (Glen) Harrison, Dan (Diane) Alvey, Jeff (Monea) Mathews, Lynn (Susie) Alvey, Steve (Shannon) Alvey, Greg (Jeannie) Alvey, Rob Alvey, Sandy Bulfin, John (Jennifer) Alvey, Jeri (Justin) Wise, Susan (Bart) Marston, Brian (Cathie) Mathews, Brad (Andrea) Mathews, Becky Mathews, and Brenda Brann, siblings; Sue Devries, Bus (Annie) Mathews, and Phil (Jo) Mathews. Slade has 54 grandchildren and 71 great-grandchildren. Slade is now with countless loved ones, anxiously awaiting his family's safe return.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the LDS Chapel, 1402 N. Fort Lane, Layton, UT. Visitations for family and friends will be Friday, March 18 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 1941 N. Main, Farmington, UT and from 9:30-10:45 AM, Saturday at the church prior to services. Interment- Lindquist Layton Memorial Cemetery.
