Jeffrey Max Hobson, 66, dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in his home in Farmington, Utah on May 8, 2017.
He was born October 18, 1950 in Boise, Idaho, the third of five sons of Dale and Norma Hobson. His mother and father instilled in him a strong work ethic. Service and helping the less fortunate were very important to the Hobson family and Jeff loved serving throughout his life. Many were touched by his kind words, his quirky ways and his sweet smile.
Jeff loved nature and this love grew as he worked in the Salmon National Forest as a firefighter. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, motorcycling, and swimming. He eagerly served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the California Central Mission, Spanish speaking. He loved speaking Spanish and was fluent throughout his life.
He graduated with his Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Boise State University. He met his eternal companion Sandie in the Boise State University Institute choir. They shared a love of music. They married March 16, 1973 and were wonderful parents to their four lucky children.
Jeff was part owner and manager of Hobson Elevator Company in Boise. He served his community by volunteering for several youth organizations including working with the Boy Scouts of America for over 20 years. He was passionate about missionary work and served as a ward missionary and recently completed a service mission at Deseret Manufacturing Company in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Jeff loved people and all who knew him grew to love him. He was a large man who could easily intimidate others with his size; however, anyone who had a few moments with him would soon discover he was truly a gentle giant. Any simple activity, even going to the grocery store, was an adventure when you did it with dad. He was an artist and made many things his family treasures, including artwork and toys for pets and children. He was a great writer and storyteller. Jeff was a die-hard Boise State fan; dad and mom loved to cheer on the Broncos.
He held several positions of service in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he enjoyed teaching others, especially the youth and children. Jeff was committed to his faith. He loved His Savior, the gospel, and Joseph Smith. He held his priesthood sacred and some of the last acts of his life were serving others by cleaning his local ward house and bearing his testimony to his ward family.
Jeff is survived by his sweetheart Sandie, his children Jessen (Linda), Jill (Don), Joey (Mindy), and Janalee (Scott), as well as 12 grandchildren, his four brothers and their wives and children, and many beloved extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents Dale and Norma, his sister-in-law June, and his angel granddaughter Alice.
The funeral will be held at the LDS Church at 549 South 1525 West in Farmington, Utah on Monday May 15. Friends and loved ones may greet the family from 9:45-10:45am. The funeral service will begin at 11:00am. There will be a graveside service at Dry Creek Cemetery in Eagle, Idaho on Tuesday May 16 at 2:30pm; all are welcome.
Nothing was more important to Jeff than his family. We are honored to be part of his legacy and will love him forever.
