Jeril Ann Duncan Brown passed away on May 22, 2024, in her home in Magna, Utah. Jeril Ann was born July 17, 1941 in Carson City, Nevada. Stories of her birth included that she was won with the shake of two dice or that she was born on a crap table. In reality, her parents, John and Arba Duncan were living in Topaz, California. John rode a bike to get a ride to take her to the maternity home that she was born in. When they made it to the home, they took Arba in and told John to go back home that it would be a while. John hitchhiked back home to Topaz, where Arba’s sister turned him around and told him to go back to the maternity home, this is about a 45 minute travel time, to the maternity home. When he got back, Jeril Ann had been born.
Jeril Ann was the first of 6 children. As a child she lived in Topaz, California; Provo Utah, Medford, Oregon; Orem, Utah; Salt Lake City, Utah; and Bountiful, Utah where she graduated from Bountiful High School in 1959. She then went on to attend BYU University in Provo Utah where she met Michael Douglas Brown. After one year at BYU Jeril Ann then attended and completed beauty school at Hollywood Beauty College in Provo, Utah. Mike enlisted in the Air Force and after completing basic training, Jeril Ann made the trip to Biloxi, Mississippi where she and Mike were married on February 22, 1962. Mike and Jeril Ann later had their marriage solemnized in the Los Angeles Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in January of 1963 and were sealed to their twin baby girls.
Mike and Jeril Ann had 6 children which included: Christina and Carolyn Brown who were born prematurely on August 11, 1962 in Biloxi, Mississippi and died the same day; Douglas Brown born in Baker, Oregon; Brenda Brown born in Baker, Oregon; John Brown born in Bountiful, Utah; and Jenifer Brown born in Salt Lake City, Utah.
While Mike was in the Air Force, he and Jeril Ann lived in Biloxi, Mississippi and Baker, Oregon, After the Air Force they moved to Bountiful, Utah then Salt Lake City, Utah followed by Magna, Utah.
Jeril Ann was preceded in her death by her parents, John and Arba Duncan; her husband, Michael Douglas Brown; her infant twin daughters Christina Brown and Carolyn Brown; her granddaughter, Natalie Horger; and her sister, Laurel Duncan Olson. Jeril Ann is survived by her siblings: Lana Goodwin of Twin Falls, Idaho; Shari (Vern) Green of Payson, Arizona; Katherine (Dennis) Erekson of Herriman, Utah; and John Duncan of Bountiful, Utah. She is also survived by her children: Douglas (Sonja) Brown of Vernal, Utah; Brenda (Ted) King of West Valley City, Utah; John (Nichole) Brown of Midland, Texas; and Jenifer Brown (Christopher) of Wood River, Nebraska. She is survived by her grandchildren and their spouses George (Tammy) Brown, Adam Smith, Chantel, Brian (Marissa) King, Rachel (Christopher Bennion) King, Stephanie King, Eric (Alexandra Teasley) Gibson, Ashley (Kevin Perez) Brown, Sean Brown, James Horger, Mitch (Alexa Markosian) Horger, & Lindsay Horger and great grand children Carson Brown, Genevieve King, Kendal Gibson, soon to be Ryan Gibson, plus a few others.
Jeril Ann was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She loved sewing, quilting, and crocheting and leaves behind much yarn which will now have to go into the yarn foster care system. We are seeking volunteers for that.
Services will be held Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at 11 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints 1st Ward building at 7825 West Sharon Drive, Magna, Utah. A viewing will take place on Monday, June 10 from 6 pm - 8 pm at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main Street, Bountiful, Utah and on Tuesday morning 9:45 am - 10:45 am at the church prior to the funeral. Luncheon will follow the funeral where funeral potatoes will be served per Jeril.
