Jerry Reed’s journey began on January 11, 1941, in Bald Knob, Arkansas. He spent his childhood working on a farm with his parents and siblings. After his graduation from Judsonia High School in 1958, he enlisted in the Army, where he proudly served for 3 years at Dugway Proving Grounds. He was often heard to say that thanks to my unit, “No communists made it past Tooele, Utah”!
He married Linda Edmonds on September 2, 1960, and they were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on September 2, 1966. His devotion and commitment were unwavering until Linda’s passing on October 24, 2021. Together they raised six boys in a small house in Rose Park, Utah. They later moved to North Salt Lake, Utah, where they lived for the next 45 years.
Following his time in the military, he began a 49-year career at Univac/L3 Communications, where he held various production management and accounting positions. Unwilling to retire, he went to work at his son Jeff’s business. His commitment and hard work were truly admirable.
Jerry was preceded in life by his father Clee, mother Mary, brothers Kenneth and Fred, sisters Geneva and Cara. He is survived by his sister Marilyn, sons Alan (Kaelyn), Jim (Jane), Jeff (Ginger), Jay (Jill), John (Shelly), and Justin (Holly). His legacy continues through his 18 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Additionally, Jerry found happiness with his beloved companion and caregiver, Caroll, who was by his side until the end.
Those who knew Jerry will remember him for his crazy sense of humor and infectious laughter. He loved nothing more than to be surrounded by his family, especially his grand and great grandchildren. He also loved playing poker, working in his garden, and watching football.
