Jerry L. Slatter, 89, of Bountiful, Utah passed away peacefully at his home November 25, 2014. He was born March 12, 1925 in Elko, Nevada to Frank and Sarah Slatter. Jerry grew up in Salt Lake City and attended East High School. In 1943 he enlisted in the Army Air Force and served his country as a member of the B-24 fleet in the Pacific Theatre during WWII.
After returning home he continued to serve his country as a civilian employee at Hill AFB. His illustrious Air Force career spanned 27 years during which time he developed numerous vital programs. He participated in the development of the Air Force Logistics Command, which would later become the Air Force Materiel Command. Jerry left a legacy of service and leadership retiring in 1972 as the senior civilian employee at Hill AFB. Later that year he founded Logistic Specialties. For the next 20 years, he would continue to shape the U.S. Defense industry as a respected consultant to the U.S. government and numerous defense contractors.
Jerry was an active member of his community serving as President of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, on the South Davis Youth Center Board of Directors, Chairman of the Davis County United Way, and in civic affairs involving muscular dystrophy, polio and get out the vote.
He married Barbara Griffin on January 8, 1949 and together they had three children. Barbara passed away on April 20, 1984 after 35 years of marriage. Jerry later met Rebecca Leahey and they were married June 11, 1997. Jerry was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Jerry is survived by his wife Rebecca, three children: Michael (Shauna) Slatter, Stephen (Marilyn) Slatter, Jan (Ronald) Madison, and Rebecca’s daughter Kristin (Ryan) Jacobs. He was blessed with 11 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank the remarkable staff members of Renew Home Health and Tender Care Hospice who have provided Jerry with wonderful loving care.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, December 5, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Lakeview LDS Chapel, 455 South 1200 East, Bountiful. Friends may call on Thursday, December 4 from 6-8 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main Street and Friday at the Chapel prior to services from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Interment will be held at Bountiful Cemetery.
