Jewell Christine (Reams) Farris passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 17, 2020, at the age of 89 years old. Chris was born November 24, 1930 in London, Kentucky to Charles and Minnie Black Reams. She was the youngest of six children and was affectionately called “Tine” by all her Kentucky family and friends. After high school, Chris moved to the big city, Cincinnati, lived at the YMCA and worked for GE. Chris was introduced to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints while in Cincinnati. She was baptized and remained a faithful member her entire life. She met Rhodes Nelson Farris at church and they were married in the LDS Mesa, Arizona Temple on June 10, 1952. They shared 60 years together. They lived in Midland, Michigan for 37 years where they raised their 5 children. After retiring, they moved to Centerville, Utah. Rhodes passed away in 2013, Chris spent her remaining years in Lehi, Utah.
Chris cherished her many friendships over the years. She kept in touch with childhood friends and looked forward to visits and phone calls with her siblings Horace, Wilma, Alma, Bert, Jean, and her niece Phyllis who was like a little sister.
Chris was always focused on serving others, inside and outside her family. She cared for her mother-in-law and father-in-law in her home for many years, without complaint. Over the years, her children have heard countless stories of her unselfish service from many of her friends, neighbors, and family. She loved serving in the Bountiful Temple for several years. She truly was a generous lady.
Chris was happiest when she was holding her babies, grandbabies, and great grandbabies. She sewed many beautiful dresses, ballet costumes, and doll clothes for her daughters and granddaughters. She has always been a basketball fan and rarely missed watching a Utah Jazz game. She was an incredible mother who had unconditional love for her children and taught them how to truly care for others. We will miss her advice, her wisdom, her love and support through good times and bad.
Chris is survived by her five children: Helen (Doug) Turner, Kimberly Schiefer, Tom (Lisa) Farris, Amy (Jeff) Johnson, and Beth (Scott) Crowley and one sister, Jean (Ed) Allin. Chris has 11 grandchildren; Shawn, Bryce, Clayton, Natalie, Andrew, Kaylie, Sarah, Michael, Emily, Ryan and Tim, and 8 great grandchildren; Evelyn, Gideon, Havok, Alexandra, Kato, Ethan, Saylor, and Madison.
Chris was buried on March 26, 2020 next to her husband, Rhodes, at the Centerville Cemetery in Utah.
