Joan Farr

April 4, 1930 — February 14, 2015

Joan Bennett Farr, Our sweet, kind, beautiful, beloved wife, mother, grandmother great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home in the arms of her devoted husband, surrounded by her loving family on February 14, 2015. Joan was born April 4, 1930 to Ann Ella Milner and Archibald F. Bennett.  She graduated from East High School and the U of U (B.S. Education 1951). Joan taught school in Salt Lake City; Maryland; Washington, D.C. and California.

She married Melvin Miller Farr, Feb 2, 1953 in the Salt Lake Temple. They have six wonderful children: Melvin Bennett (Melissa); James Bennett (Susan); David Bennett (Emily); Carol Ann Farr Cook (Jerry); John Bennett (Angelin); Daniel Bennett (Stephanie); 24 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Joan was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, holding many positions in Sunday School, Primary, Cub Scouts, MIA, Relief Society and Family History.  She was a charter member of the Mt. Olympus Daughters of the Utah Pioneers (DUP) camp.  She enjoyed writing, including “Ninean” a book to be published, painting, sewing, gardening, reading, collecting stories of her progenitors.  Her greatest joy was her wonderful family. She served two missions with her husband, to the Polynesian Cultural Center where she grew to love the Polynesians and their culture, and to Wasco, California to teach English. We will miss her beautiful blue eyes, her dimpled smile, stunning white hair and kind and loving heart; always putting other’s welfare ahead of her own.

She is survived by her spouse, 6 children and their spouses, grandchildren, a sister Barbara Roach; brother, David Milner Bennett (Lorrie).

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 21, at 11:30 a.m. in the Mt. Olympus Ward Chapel , 4635 S. Lanark Rd. (3335 E).  A viewing will be held Feb. 20 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 255 S. 200 E., SLC, UT and at the church 10:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the services.
