JoAnn Floyd Herrscher

June 28, 1932 — July 11, 2015

On July 11, 2015, Our sweet Mother, JoAnn Floyd Herrscher, passed peacefully from this life to be with her eternal sweetheart, our Dad.

Born June 28, 1932, in Houston Texas, Mom joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when she was 14 years old.  She and her mother moved to Salt Lake City in 1948 where she met Russell Lund Herrscher at a church function at the old Whitier Ward.  She was his “Southern Belle,” and on May 25, 1950, they were married in the Salt Lake Temple.  They made their home in Bountiful, where they raised their five children.  Their love and devotion to each other and to their family will forever be an example to us all.

Mom served in many church callings, and together with Dad, she served as a missionary on Temple Square from 1991 to 1993, and as an ordinance worker in the Bountiful Temple for eight years.  They  loved to do family history research and they took several trips to Europe and many trips to the Southern States to seek out their ancestors.  Mom was very creative, a tailored seamstress and an accomplished artist.  She collected porcelain dolls, kitchen gadgets, purses, shoes, and McDonald’s drink cups in the fridge.  She never missed an opportunity to let people know she was from Texas.  “You can take the girl out of Texas, but you can’t take Texas out of the girl.”  She and Dad loved putting puzzles together, traveling  together, and spending time with family.  She was fiercely loyal to Dad, supporting him in his many church responsibilities, his business obligations, and the many family traditions they planned together, which included numerous trips to Laguna Beach, progressive breakfasts, monthly family gatherings where we celebrated Christmas year round, and making personalized gingerbread men for all of the grandkids and great-grandkids.

She is survived by her children, Rebecca Cullimore (Val), Cathy Reese (Roger), Barry Russell Herrscher (Janis), Danette Brown, and Ronda Cowley (Neil), 27 grandkids and 60 great-grandkids.  Preceded in death by her dear husband, her mother and father, Ruth and Hans Frederick Christensen, brothers Ray and Charles, sister Melba Ruth, and 4 celestial great-grandchildren, Kimbal Rae, Ali Lyn, Amelia Jane, and Gracee Belle.

Thank you, Mom, for your example of unwavering devotion to your Heavenly Father, your Savior, and your Eternal Companion, our Dad.  We feel so blessed to have been raised by such wonderful parents.  We will miss you, but we are so happy to know you are with Dad again.  Give him a hug for us!

Services will be held at 11:00 am, July 16 at the Bountiful 13th Ward Bldg, 1365 N 650 E, Bountiful, UT.  A viewing will be held Wednesday, July 15 from  6:30 till 7:30 p.m. at  Russon Brothers Mortuary at. 295 N Main St, Bountiful, and prior to the services from 9:30 till 10:30 at the 13th Ward bldg.  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Churches Missionary fund.
