JOEL ALMON FLAKE

Our brother, uncle, and friend, passed away May 18, 2018 in Kaysville, Utah.  Joel was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Almon and Lois Flake on January 4th, 1951.  Joel graduated from Viewmont High School in 1969.  Joel was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served a mission in the Montana-Wyoming Mission (formerly West Central States Mission) from 1970-1972.  Following his mission, he took various positions in the printing business where he eventually spent 35 years working for Brigham Young University Printing Services.  His later years there were spent in management.  Joel had many hobbies and interests.  He helped design and build a family cabin which he thoroughly enjoyed.  He loved boating, waterskiing, canoeing, 4-wheeling, snowmobiling, building and flying RC planes, setting up salt water fish tanks and so much more.  Joel was a scuba diver and had his private pilot license.  He was fascinated with innovative new technology and was often first to own it.  Joel was respected and admired by his nieces and nephews who he knew well and dearly loved.  He would take a special interest in each one of them.  His favorite time was spent being around his family no matter what they were doing, just being together. Joel will be most remembered for his genuine kindness and concern for others.  He was selfless and giving.  Joel’s loving example of kindness and generosity will never be forgotten.  Joel is survived by his four siblings, Vicki Flake, Lynette Watts, Connie Jackson (Gaylen), Mark Flake (Merlynn) along with eleven nephews and nieces, Michael Flake (Holly), Tyson Jackson (Holly), Stanton Watts (Lainie), Bradie McMurdo (Matt), Melany Lunt (Brady), Miles Flake, Pierson Watts (Lauren), Alyssa Barrett (Jake), Ali Jackson, Jeremy Jackson, and Matthew Flake, and eight great nieces and nephews, Weston, Brinley, Judson, Maleeya, Addison, Savannah, Quincey, and McKensie.  Preceded in death by his father, Almon J. Flake, mother Lois Widdison Flake and brother-in-law William Jennings Watts.

A visitation will be held Saturday, May 26th, 2018 from 9:45 – 10:45 a.m. at the Russon Brothers Mortuary, 1941 North Main Street, Farmington, Utah.  Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the Russon Brothers Farmington Mortuary.  Interment will be at the Centerville City Cemetary, 650 East 400 South.
