John Barlow

September 5, 1920 — January 19, 2013

John Paul Barlow, age 92, died Jan 19, 2013 in the home of his daughter. He was born in Bountiful, Utah on Sept 5, 1920 to John Clyde and Joukje Zysling Barlow, the oldest of nine children. He had 4 brothers and 4 sisters. As a youth he worked on the family truck garden farm for his father and his Uncle Leo J. Barlow. He graduated from Davis High School in 1937.

Paul served in the US Army from1941 to 1946 finishing as a 1st Lieutenant. In 1947 he graduated with High Honors from the U of U with a BS in Accounting. He worked for Mountain States Telephone, and Standard Oil Company. He later transferred to American Gilsonite Co. and retired as Chief Accountant after 34 years of service.

Paul was active in the LDS church all his life and served in many callings such as, Bountiful 3rd Ward Bishopric, High Councilman in Bountiful Stake, Member of the LDS Church General Priesthood Genealogy Committee, the first Bishop of the 33rd Ward and Stake Missionary. He was an avid genealogist and served as the Genealogist for the Elias Harmer Family and the Israel Barlow Family Association. He served as a veil worker in the Salt Lake Temple, and an ordinance worker and sealer at the Bountiful Temple.

Paul married his beloved wife, Ida Walsh June 29, 1942 in the Salt Lake Temple. She passed away June 3, 1991, after 49 years of marriage. Ida and Paul had 2 children, Isabel Ann B. Ward (Ray) and Paul Robert Barlow (Ann). They have 14 grandchildren and 51 great grandchildren. He was privileged to marry his second choice wife, Carla R. Hatch Oct. 17, 1998 in the Bountiful Temple. Carla has 4 children, 14 grandchildren, and 7 great-grand children. Paul is survived by his brother Gary D. Barlow.

Viewings will be held Friday evening from 6-8 PM at the Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 N Main in Bountiful and Sat Jan. 26, 2013 from 9:45-10:45 AM in the Bountiful Tabernacle, 51 South Main, followed by the funeral at 11:00 AM.
