Our beloved father and grandfather, John Spencer Cannon, returned to his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, November 8, 2011. He passed away in his home surrounded by his family and friends. He was born January 8, 1921, to Spencer Croxall and Nancy Badger Cannon in Holden, Utah, and grew up in Hunter, Utah. He graduated from Cyprus High School and the University of Utah. He served in the Navy in World War II and later joined the Utah National Guard, where he eventually worked full time as an Executive Officer of the 19th Special Forces. He retired from the UTNG in 1979 as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was also a member of the first graduating ROTC class at the University of Utah. He married his loving wife, Marie Day, on June 19, 1947, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was preceded in death by his lifelong sweetheart, his parents, and three brothers. He is survived by his sisters Mary Cannon Mix and Nancy Ann Cook; brothers Riley B. Cannon (Lola) and Michael B. Cannon (Geraldine); children Hugh Day Cannon (Karyn), Candice Cannon Lawrence (Ray), and Wendy Cannon (Tim McMurtry); 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. He was admired, respected, and adored by everyone who crossed paths with him. His viewing will be Friday, November 11, from 6:00 8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary located at 295 North Main Street in Bountiful, Utah. There will also be a viewing Saturday, November 12, from 9:45 10:45 a.m. with the funeral following at 11:00 a.m. at the Bountiful 14th Ward Chapel located at 1500 South 600 East in Bountiful, Utah. He will be laid to rest in the Bountiful City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Huntsman Cancer Foundation.
