John Brent Carmack

(John) Brent Carmack passed away peacefully on January 6, 2025 at home surrounded by his family.

Brent was born in Ogden, UT on October 29, 1940 to Sara Simpson and Harold Carmack.

He attended Bountiful High School and lived most of his life in Centerville. After high school, Brent completed a barber school certification and practiced the trade for a short time with his brother-in-law John Wilson. He joined the Army Reserve in 1966 and served honorably for 24 years. During this time, he worked as a civilian employee for the U.S. Army as a heavy duty machine mechanic. After his retirement, he drove a bus for the University of Utah Elder Hostel. He loved to go fishing, camping, and travelling with his family. He was an avid life long student and spent his time learning.

Family was important to Brent. He would go out of his way to provide assistance to family members. He would be the first to help anyone in his extended family. He had a great sense of humor and always had a joke or story to tell. He was a big teaser with a big heart. Brent loved his pets of which we had many.

Survived by Nancy Ostermiller, his wife of 54 years, and daughters Cindy (Rob Kopecky) Carmack and Laurie (Brad) Chamberlain. Also survived by his treasured grandchildren Zach and Sarah. Lastly, he is survived by sister-in-law Arlea Carmack and his many nieces and nephews, who he loved dearly.

Preceded in death by his parents and his siblings and their spouses: Don (Beverlee), Kathleen (John), and Neil (Karen).

A viewing will be held on Saturday, January 11th from 12:30-1:30pm at Russon Mortuary, 1941 N Main St., Farmington, Ut, with interment afterwards at the Centerville City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Brent's name to the Utah Food Bank or Disabled American Veterans.
