John Eberhard

John F. Eberhard passed from this earthly existence on 14 July, 2005, surrounded by his family at the home of his daughter in South Jordan.

He was born 21 February, 1913, to Herman and Berta Kraemer Eberhard in Whitney, Idaho, the fourth of six children, and moved with his family to Bothwell, Utah at six years of age, where they engaged in farming. He attended Bothwell Elementary and Bear River High Schools.

John married Shirley Nielsen of Elwood, Utah, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on 25 Nov, 1936, and they resided in Bothwell for the next thirty-nine years while raising eight children and engaging in the farming and dairy industries.

The couple retired in 1975 and then served the next two years in the LDS Church Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh Mission after which they took up residence in Bountiful. Shirley died on 24 July, 1987. John remained in Bountiful while spending some winters in Florida and Arizona until November 2002 when he moved to Ogden, remaining there until the past two months when he resided with a daughter in South Jordan.

He was a faithful member of his church and active through temple work and many ward and stake callings. He was involved in various community activities throughout both Box Elder and Davis Counties that included drama; ballroom, round, and square dance instruction and exhibition; Foreign Student Exchange and American Field Service placement program; International Brotherhood and Experiment in International Living; 4-H Clubs, Boy Scouts, county fairs, and Farm Bureau; Retired Senior Volunteers, Travelers Aid Society; U.S. Weather Observer Volunteer; and the Southern Arizona Senior Olympics. He earned many awards and other recognition of participation in these organizations.

John?s supreme interest was meeting people, he never met a stranger. Hobbies he used to enable this interest were, traveling pen-paling with people from various walks of life including International and national political figures and beauty queens, and renowned entertainers; his self-styled ?Golden Spike Award? program; growing fruits and vegetables that were never sold but given away; jewelry making; leather crafting; and authoring short stories, poems, and newspaper and magazine articles.

Survivors are the eight children and spouses Donna Rae Gerald Thompson of Ogden; Arnold Gary Margo Eberhard and Becky Bradley Archibald of Tremonton; Arlene Clarence Howard of Hawthorne, California; Theron Reese Norma Eberhard of Bothwell; Janet Tim Holdstock of Centerville; Corlyss Wells of South Jordan; and Joel Craig Carrie Eberhard of Rose Canyon.

Other descendants include forty-one grandchildren including two that are deceased; forty-nine great grandchildren including one deceased, and one great great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Herman Eberhard, Jr, and sisters Mina Eggli Obray and Gertrude Eberhard.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, July 18, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, where friends may call Sunday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., and Monday morning from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. prior to services.
