1933 John 2024

John Thomas Eggett, Jr.

September 12, 1933 — October 28, 2024

Bountiful, UT

John left this earth at his home surrounded by his loving family on October 28, 2024. He always expressed his love and gratitude for his family and friends.

He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to John Thomas Sr and Edna Pearl Eggett. He met his lovely wife when they were kids growing up on the benches of Bountiful. He married Joann Jackson on August 18, 1952, in the Salt Lake City Temple. They have been married for 72 years.

He had a great posterity, his children include Joan (Michael) Tuttle, Cindy (Brian) Bagnell, Michael (Karla) Eggett, Danny (Ruth) Eggett. He had 15 Grandchildren, 32 Great Grandchildren and 11 Great Great Grandchildren. He loved them all dearly.

He served in the US Army during the Korean War.

John & Joann made their home in Bountiful, Utah where they raised their four children. He worked in construction building houses, he eventually opened his own concrete business. He always said, “I worked on every street in Bountiful”.

He loved making wood furniture out of logs, from cutting them down to creating the furniture. He made many beds, dressers, tables, benches, lamps, clocks and pencil holders. He was always asking people if they wanted a clock or pencil holder. He made all this furniture and generously gave them away to other people never asking for anything in return.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, horses, his dogs and his birds. He loved feeding all the birds that came into the area. Every summer he had at least 9 hummingbird feeders out to feed what he called his birds. He also enjoyed feeding the deer that would come into the yard.  He was always a farmer at heart and planted a garden every summer.  He loved being in the mountains so much that he built a Cabin in the Uintah’s. His entire family has enjoyed going to the cabin.

He has held various positions including commander in both the Bountiful City Jeep Posse and the National Search and Rescue Association. For over 50 years he taught hunter safety to the kids in the area.
