John Henry Tew

September 19, 1928 — May 8, 2011

John (Jack) Tew passed away on Sunday May 8, 2011, at University of Utah Hospital due to complications of a stroke. Born on September 19, 1928 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was the son of George Bird and Blanche Tanner Tew. Jack attended West High school where he played football, and basketball. He was a faithful member of the LDS church and served an LDS mission in Sweden from 1948-1950. He held many positions in the Church. Jack served with his brother, Fred, in the US Air Force, from 1951-1953. After his Air Force tour, he enlisted in the US Marine Corp Reserve for a total of eight years in the military. Jack married Carollee Austin on June 11, 1956 in the Salt Lake Temple, and they were married for 54 years. He graduated from Westminster College with a Bachelors Degree in History/Social Studies Education. Jack graduated with a Masters Degree in Geography from the University of Utah. Jack taught math and social studies in the Salt Lake City, Sonoma County, and Granite School Districts. After teaching for 34 years, he retired in 1993. Jack and Carollee enjoyed traveling all over the United States and Alaska in their Airstream travel trailer for 46 years. Jack served as the first President of the Utah Unit of the WBCCI trailer club. In 1995 they became Snow Birds and settled in St George, Utah for the winters. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Ray, Fred, and Reed; and sister Elaine. Jack is survived by his wife Carollee; son John Erik; daughter Paula Jane (Adrian); granddaughter Serena; sister Dolores (Clyde) Fisher; sister-in-law Betty Tew; and many special nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 13, 2011 at the Orchard 5th Ward Chapel, 3599 South Orchard Drive, Bountiful. A viewing will be held Thursday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main and Friday morning 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment-Lehi City Cemetery.
